Tim Noble and Sue Webster’s work presents a form of self-deprecating self-portraiture, be it through silhouetted shadows of the artists themselves or through references to the everyday cultural environments that they occupy. Tim Noble was born in Gloucester in 1966 and Sue Webster in Leicester in 1967. They met at Nottingham Polytechnic where they both received BFAs in 1989 before moving to London in 1992 where Noble earned his MFA from the Royal College of Art in 1994. Noble and Webster employ a range of materials and references to mock the role that artistic personae and fame play in the art world, often incorporating sardonic references to their relationship as a couple and as artistic partners.
